Theme: Weep A divine command Memorise: Rejoice evermore. – 1 Thessalonians 5:16 Read: Luke 7:12-15 KJV 12 Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. 13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. 14 And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. 15 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother. Bible in One Year: Deuteronomy 19:15-22:12; Job 6:8-23 MESSAGE: At times, children of God lose the import of God’s command, which invariably is for our good if we do not take it as a suggestion but as a command. Positively, one of such commands is one of the shortest verses in the New Testament; “Rejoice evermore.” In today’s Bible reading, we were given a command; “Weep Not". This command ...

LETTING GO!

When you find yourself in hard economic situation all you need to do is to inject the invisible life (the Word of God) into it and it will create the surplus you need and it will also increase productivity. In the story of the widow and the prophet Elisha in the bible (2Kings4:2), the prophet helped the widow by making her realise that the ‘nothing’ she thought she had was enough to create surplus or abundance that will end the lack in her family. Elisha simply asked her to bring whatever she has and not knowing the value she said nothing because she counted it as such. Then she said to Elisha that she only had a jar of oil. Sometimes situations will ask you, “what you have, and when times like that arise, do not depart or say “nothing,” instead look within and exploit that “little or nothing you think you have.” Speak life into it and see it produce increase. The bible says, “Except a corn of wheat falls to the ground it abides alone.(John 12:24)” If you do n...

Open Heavens Devotional 5th- 01- 2016

Theme: A Glimpse of Heaven “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10, NIV) God longs to give you a glimpse of heaven while you are here on earth. He wants to show you His wonderful plan and bring it to pass in your life. Have you ever thought about how God’s will is accomplished in heaven? In heaven, God’s will is automatic. There are no opposing forces or anything that would come against His will. On earth, we must choose His will on a daily basis in our thoughts, words and actions. On earth, we have to stand against the forces of darkness and refuse those negative, self-defeating thoughts that come against us. Today, open your heart to the will of God which is His Word. Stand strong in faith and see His will in your life just as it is in heaven! A Prayer for Today “Father, I humbly come to You today and invite Your will to be done in my life. I submit every area of my heart to You. Let everythi...

Turningpoint Today: Diffuse Life Pressures

“Whenever the spirit from God came upon Saul, David would take his harp and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him” 1 Samuel 16:23. I have a friend that I have observed over time, and I discovered that no matter how miserable he is, no matter how hard he’s been working, no matter how annoying life has been, no matter how fed up, when he gets home and gets that warm greeting from his dogs, the gloom is lifted, the pent up pressures is diffused and he is instantly calm. There are things that lift up our moods. These things are usually magical in some way. They stop us from taking ourselves or life too seriously. They help us realize that all the pressures coming to us are not that important, which ought not to be taken personal; and they remind us of the simple pleasures of life. It varies from individual to individual. It could be a particular view or person, a pet or a child, a favourite look, a film that we watch...

Open Heavens Friday September 18, 2015: Popularity Can Ebb

Memorise: There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD. Proverbs 21:30 Read: Numbers 16:1-3 1 Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men: 2 And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown: 3 And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the Lord is among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the Lord? Message: Every race has its rules. Crossing the finish line without following the rules will bring you no reward. Service to God in His vineyard also follows this principle. Some leaders who have gone ahead of us in the service of God messed up and ended up where they did no...

Turningpoint Today: The Ripple Effects

“You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me” Exodus 20:5. You are part of the entire human race. You are part of the whole. Anything you say or do, positive or negative, has ripple effects. By ripple effect, I mean the prolonged direct or indirect consequences of whatever is said or done. Throw a stone into the river, it causes ripples. Say a word and it causes ripples. Take action, and it causes ripples. Behaviour causes ripples. The effect of the blunder committed by Adam and Eve was not only limited to them or felt by them; it transferred to the succeeding generations of human beings, and was in force till Jesus came to revoke it by his blood. Similarly, the effect of Jonathan’s kind gesture to David lived long after Jonathan had gone. It extended to Mephibosheth, the only surviving son of Jonathan, who was abandoned and...
