Nobility Of Discipline By William Kumuyi

DCLM Daily Manna Thursday 11th August 2016 Key Verse: "Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars. Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, and wonders without number"  - Job 9:7, 10 Read: Ecclesiastes 10:16-20 The promise of the Holy Spirit baptism was fufilled in the second book of Acts. As the disciples spoke in different but understandable languages, being Galileans, the people were amazed. While some wondered at the great miracle, others charged them with drunkenness. This charge was punctured by Peter who reminded them that it was but the third hour of the day and it would be unwise and irresponsible to be drunk at that time of the day. Obviously, apostles and ardent believers are made of more sober stuff. Our text paints the picture of a tragic state of affairs when rulers and leaders are childish and their princes begin the day by satisfying their appetites. Apparently looking back to the book of 1st and 2nd Kings, the wri

Nothing To Do, Only Believe By Joseph Prince

Daily Grace Inspirations Thursday 11th August 2016 …“What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.” - John 6:28–29 When I was a young Christian, I attended a seminar on what we must do to “work the works of God”. I was told that we had to pray more, fast more, know our enemy and so on. I came away from the seminar confused. Then one day, I found the same question in the Bible. But the answer was very different! In the Gospel of John, we find Jesus being asked the same question by the multitude who had been awed by His miracles—“What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?” The people had seen Jesus healing the sick, and feeding 5,000 men with only five loaves and two fish. Notice how Jesus answered them: “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.” My friend, the greatest doing is believing—believing in Jesus the sent one, who has done it all

The Storms of Life By Charles Stanley

In Touch Ministries Daily Devotional Tuesday 11th August 2016 When life gets hard, we tend to get upset and wonder how soon the difficulty will end. But God wants us to focus on Him in times of trouble. As we do, we will discover that He is doing important spiritual work during these “storms.” Read: Genesis 50:15-21 15 When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “What if Joseph holds a grudge against us and pays us back for all the wrongs we did to him?”  16 So they sent word to Joseph, saying, “Your father left these instructions before he died:  17 ‘This is what you are to say to Joseph: I ask you to forgive your brothers the sins and the wrongs they committed in treating you so badly.’ Now please forgive the sins of the servants of the God of your father.” When their message came to him, Joseph wept.  18 His brothers then came and threw themselves down before him. “We are your slaves,” they said.  19 But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be

We Fail To Achieve Greatness Because We Fear Success By John Hagee

John Hagee Daily Devotional Thursday 11th August 2016  I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.  - One reason we do not reach excellence is because of our fear of failure.  Failure is a better teacher than success.  Every great success story has its element of failure.  You have not failed until you quit; only then have you failed.  After Thomas Edison finished his 700th experiment trying to develop the electric light his assistant said, “We have failed.”  Edison replied, “No.   We have found 700 ways that will not work.  Do not call these 700 experiments mistakes; call them our education.  Now let’s keep going until we find the answer.”  Are you afraid of failure?  Then you’ll never succeed.  You’ll never stub your toe standing still.  Remember the turtle, he never gets anywhere until he sticks his neck out.  You can’t succeed if you’re not willing to risk failure. Have you failed? Get up.  Wipe the dust and the dirt off of your face and get back in the race.  Do

Success Is a Decision By Jerry Savelle

Jerry Savelle Daily Devotional Thursday 11th August 2016 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success  - Joshua 1:8 NKJV Success begins with a decision to succeed. In turn, that decision will produce an unwavering commitment to do what it takes to do two things. The first is to discover the spiritual laws relevant to your challenge. Simply put, this means to get wisdom: “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom” (Proverbs 4:7 NKJV). The second is to diligently apply these laws and wisdom through to complete victory. God’s will for you is success, but success doesn’t just happen. That’s why He shows you in His Word how to make things happen. If you do not believe and act according to His Word, there is nothing He can do about it. However, when you do your part, He h

If You Want to Change, Start with Your Thinking By Rick Warren

Daily Hope Devotional Thursday 11th August 2016 “Let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes”  - Ephesians 4:23 NLT, second edition. Change requires new thinking. In order to change, we must learn the truth and start making good choices, but we also must change the way we think. The way you think determines the way you feel, and the way you feel determines the way you act. If you want to change the way you act, you start by changing the way you think. In addition, if you want to change the way you feel, you must start with the way you think. For instance, you can say, “I need to love my husband more,” but that isn’t going to work. You can’t fight your way into a feeling. You must change the way you think about your husband, about your kids, about your wife. That will change the way you feel, which will then change the way you act. The Bible says, “Let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes” (Ephesians 4:23 NLT, second edition). The battle for sin, the battle t

Our Daily Bread: No Fear

The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid.”  - Luke 2:10 Nearly every time an angel appears in the Bible, the first words he says are, “Do not be afraid” (Dan. 10:12, 19; Matt. 28:5; Rev. 1:17). Little wonder. When the supernatural makes contact with planet Earth, it usually leaves the human observers flat on their faces in catatonic fear. But Luke tells of God making an appearance on earth in a form that does not frighten. In Jesus, born in a barn and laid in a feeding trough, God finds at last a mode of approach that we need not fear. What could be less scary than a newborn baby? Puzzled skeptics stalked Jesus throughout His ministry. How could a baby in Bethlehem, a carpenter’s son, be the Messiah from God? But a group of shepherds in a field had no doubt about who He was, for they heard the message of good news straight from a choir of angels (2:8-14). Why did God take on human form? The Bible gives many reasons, some densely theological and some quite practical; but the s

Plan for Good By Joel Osteen

Today's Word with Joel & Victoria Thursday 11th August 2016 ...those who plan what is good find love and faithfulness.” - , NIV Do you wake up every morning expecting favor and blessing on everything you do? Do you plan for what is good? When we plan for what is good, the scripture tells us that we find love. We know that God is love which means that when we plan for what is good, we will find God in the midst of our plans. Today, don’t let the negative voices of the world steal your focus or get you off course. Don’t start planning for a bad day; choose to plan for good. The scripture doesn’t say, “Plan for good as long as the economy is booming.” It doesn’t say, “Plan for good as long as the housing market is strong.” It doesn’t say, “Plan for good as long as you aren’t facing any adversity.” No, we can plan for good because we serve a God who is good, and He is ready, willing and able to bring us through any adversity we face! Boldly plan for good today and watch G

Meditate on the Word By Kenneth Copeland

From Faith To faith Daily Devotional Thursday 11th August 2016 And [God] brought [Abram] forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be. And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness. - Genesis 15:5-6 Do you ever have trouble believing the Word of God? Not just agreeing with it mentally, but really believing that what it says will work for you? I do. There are times when the promises in the Word stagger my mind. There have been times when I’ve felt so defeated and the circumstances around me looked so bad that it was tough for me to believe I was “more than a conqueror” even though I knew God said I was. What do you do when your mind staggers like that at the promise of God? You meditate on that promise. Scriptural meditation simply means thinking about and reflecting on the Word of God. It means pondering a particular scripture and mentally applying it
