Come Down!

DCLM Daily Manna, Devotional October 23rd, 2016  Text: Lamentations 3:42-54  “Till the Lord look down, and behold from heaven” (Lamentations 3:50). The story of Zacchaeus’ encounter with Jesus is instructive. He was a rich man of high social status, but diminutive in size. He was a sin- stricken man who needed his life to be touched by the Sin-bearer. He wanted a contact with Christ but felt the crowd would pose a hindrance because of his short stature. He therefore, took an option of climbing a sycamore tree so that he could catch a glimpse of him as he was passing by. Jesus spotted him on top of the tree and said to him, “Zacchaeus, make haste and come down…”. He came down from the tree and entered into an experience with Jesus. In our text today, prophet Jeremiah was lamenting the ordeal of the people of Israel, particularly, the daughters of Jerusalem, as a result of their sin. Their transgressions and rebellion pushed the face of God away from them and cause...

Personalize God’s Word to Change Your Life

Daily Hope By Rick Warren October 23rd, 2016 “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns” (Philippians 1:6 NLT, second edition). God’s Word will never change your life until you let it become personal. It’s not about your neighbor, your friend, your spouse, or the stranger down the street. God’s Word must be applied to your life. The Bible won’t become dynamic until it becomes specific. How do you make God’s Word personal? Try the personalize-it method of Bible meditation. Anybody can do it. You don’t need any special tools or advanced theological training. You simply put your name in the place of pronouns or nouns in Scripture. For example, if I were personalizing John 3:16, I’d write something like this: “For God so loved Rick, he gave his one and only Son so that Rick would not perish but have everlasting life.” Or, for Philippians 1:6: “He who began a good ...

See Yourself In Christ

Daily Grace Inspirations October 23rd, 2016 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. - Ephesians 1:3 I remember going through a terrible time of depression when I was 18 years old. Believing that I was demon-possessed, I sought out a great man of God to have him cast the devil out of me. But when this man of God laid hands on me, he began to prophesy over me. He said, “Joe, I see you preaching to thousands and used by God to impact thousands of lives. Joe, you are called by God and the devil is attempting to stop you.” “What? I came here for deliverance! I am only interested in saving my own life, not preaching nor impacting lives,” I thought to myself then. You see, what happened was that at that moment, God allowed this man to step into the timeless zone He exists in to bring my future before me. As far as God was concerned, my future had already happened, though I was only 1...

Dealing With Conflict

God's Favourite House Daily Devotional October 23rd, 2016  “Don’t be selfish...  Be humble....  Don’t think only about your own affairs, be interested in others too, and what they are doing. Your attitude should be the same that Christ Jesus had.  Though He was God, He did not demand and cling to His rights.”  Phil. 2:3-6 [Emphasis added] Three things jump out at us from this passage of Scripture. The first of which is Selfishness. It is my way or the high way. Folks that do not get their way by bullying, try to get their way by manipulations. It is still selfishness. The second thing we see there is Pride. God says be humble because when we act in pride, we tend to be demanding and unsympathetic. When we act in pride, we hold grudges and keep scores. That was what you did November 5th, 1982 at five o clock. You did it again in 2012. When we act out of pride, we refuse to admit mistakes. Do you know anybody that has done wrong and instead of just sa...

I Am With You

Our  Daily Bread Devotional October 23rd, 2016 Read: Jeremiah 1:1-10 Bible in a Year: Jeremiah 1-2; 1 Timothy 3 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you - Jeremiah 1:8 Listen to the audio: When I served as an intern for a Christian magazine, I wrote a story about a person who had become a Christian. In a dramatic change, he said goodbye to his former life and embraced his new Master: Jesus. A few days after the magazine hit the street, an anonymous caller threatened, “Be careful, Darmani. We are watching you! Your life is in danger in this country if you write such stories.” That was not the only time I have been threatened for pointing people to Christ. On one occasion a man told me to vanish with the tract I was giving him or else! In both cases, I cowered. But these were only verbal threats. Many Christians have had threats carried out against them. In some cases simply living a godly lifestyle attracts mistreatment from people. The Lord told Jeremiah, “You...
