There’re Higher Purposes Of Prayer

Rhapsody Of Realities Daily Devotional 8th October 2016 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints (Ephesians 6:18) Our theme verse is quite profound. The Amplified translation makes it clearer; it says, “Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit, with all manner of prayer and entreaty….” Prayer is very important. Oftentimes, when we talk about prayer, what comes to people’s mind is asking God for things, making entreaties and requests; that’s all they’ve known about prayer. Yes, such a prayer has its place, where you make requests, but prayer has higher purposes than asking God for your needs. Praying for material needs, that is, asking God for something for yourself is actually the lowest kind of prayer. When you pray like that, you’re praying at the babyhood stage; it’s the prayer of spiritual babies. Someone could pray, “Oh God, I need a job,” or “L...

Financial Control

God's Favourite House Daily Devotional 8th October, 2016 “Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrower is servant to the lender”    (Proverbs 22:7) Statistics show that over fifty percent of marriages that end up in divorce had to do with money. And guess what? Christians are not immune. Over fifty percent of divorce cases have a financial twist to it. I pray that financial vagueness in every marriage will disappear and beginning from today you will have total financial clarity. To get the facts at any price, there are four facts that you must know about your finances or joint finances as a married couple. #1. Know what you own. #2. Know what you owe. #3. Know what you earn. #4. Know where it is going. Some people are in debt but they do not want to think about it. If you have ever been in debt, you can relate with that feeling. You just do not want to think about it. My advice is please, think about it and write it down. I was working with someone that was in s...

See His Goodness

Today's Word with Joel & Victoria 8th October, 2016 “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” (Psalm 27:13, NIV) David was going through a tough time when he made the declaration in today’s verse. Things weren’t going his way. But he said in effect, “I’m not worried. I’m not upset. I am confident I will see God’s goodness.” In other words, “This situation I’m in may be rough, but that’s not going to steal my vision. That’s not going to cause me to give up on my dreams. I am confident that this year, I will see God’s favor in a new way.” That’s what our attitude needs to be today because what you focus on is what you will see. No matter what the medical report says, no matter what your finances look like, no matter how bad that relationship may seem, be confident that you will see His goodness! He is the all-powerful, omniscient Creator of the universe, and He holds you in the palm of His hand. Nothing is too diffic...

Leave Foolishness Behind

From Faith To Faith Daily Devotional 8th October, 21016 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.  (Proverbs 13:21) Satan has had us in a poverty mentality so long that it's tough for us to grasp just how intensely God really does desire to prosper us—even though He's demonstrated that desire again and again. Take Abraham, for example. God made him an extremely wealthy man. Genesis 13:2 says he was rich in cattle, in silver and in gold. Then, of course, there was Solomon. The Bible says he surpassed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom. God's servant Job possessed such great wealth that he was called the greatest of all the men of the East. That was before Satan put him through the wringer. Afterward, God blessed him with more than twice what Satan had stolen. The problem is, just the thought of the kind of wealth God gave to those men scares most believers today. They're afraid it would destroy them. God has sai...

Praise Him

Rhapsody Of Realities Daily Devotional 6th October, 2016 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them (Acts 16:25). Something remarkable about the way Paul and Silas praised the Lord in Acts 16 was that they were exuberant in their praise and worship of the Lord. It was supposed to be for them a moment of gloom, loneliness and despondency, but rather than be overwhelmed with despair, they sang praises unto God. They didn’t just mutter songs quietly, fearful of the prison guards, they sang as loud as they could such that the prisoners heard them. This is one of the faith-ways to respond in the face of contrary situations; you praise and worship the Lord exuberantly, knowing that in Him you’re more than a conqueror. If it seems as though you’re in the “darkest hour” of your life, don’t despair! Don’t try to remind God of the problem, no; praise Him! You might say, “But if I don’t tell Him my problems, He won’t know what’s on m...

Grasping the Cross

Our Daily Bread Devotional 7th October, 2016 Read: Philippians 3:7-12 Bible in a Year: Isaiah 28-29; Philippians 3 Not that I have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. —(Philippians 3:12) In 1856, Charles Spurgeon, the great London preacher, founded the Pastors’ College to train men for the Christian ministry. It was renamed Spurgeon’s College in 1923. Today’s college crest shows a hand grasping a cross and the Latin words, Et Teneo, Et Teneor, which means, “I hold and am held.” In his autobiography, Spurgeon wrote, “This is our College motto. We . . . hold forth the Cross of Christ with a bold hand . . . because that Cross holds us fast by its attractive power. Our desire is that every man may both hold the Truth, and be held by it; especially the truth of Christ crucified.” In Paul’s letter to the Philippians, he expressed this truth as the bedrock of his life. “Not that I have . . . already arrived at...
