Turningpoint Today: Diffuse Life Pressures

“Whenever the spirit from God came upon Saul, David would take his harp and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him” 1 Samuel 16:23.

I have a friend that I have observed over time, and I discovered that no matter how miserable he is, no matter how hard he’s been working, no matter how annoying life has been, no matter how fed up, when he gets home and gets that warm greeting from his dogs, the gloom is lifted, the pent up pressures is diffused and he is instantly calm.

There are things that lift up our moods. These things are usually magical in some way. They stop us from taking ourselves or life too seriously.

They help us realize that all the pressures coming to us are not that important, which ought not to be taken personal; and they remind us of the simple pleasures of life. It varies from individual to individual.

It could be a particular view or person, a pet or a child, a favourite look, a film that we watch to help us recharge. Sometimes, it could be a state of mind that we arrive at through going to a place of worship or meditating. It could be a certain piece of music that lightens the heart. For some, it is doing charity work.

(Hebrews 10:16-17) The Bible tells us that under Levitical law, an animal had to be offered every year to atone for the sins of the people. That word atone means "to cover" and it's used continually throughout the Old Testament. But let me tell you something exciting. It's never used in the New Testament. You Must Forgive Yourself Hebrews 12:1-11 You have heard quite a lot about forgiving those that have offended you – and that you must do. It happens often that the person you must really forgive is yourself. You may have committed an offence or a sin and your conscience has condemned you, just as the Holy Spirit has chastised you. You may also have repented of this sin, confessed it to God and resolved not to go back that way.
