Take Only Reasonable Risk

ANCHOR TEXT: “For lack of guidance a nation falls, but many advisers make victory sure” Proverbs 11:14.

While it is true that life is a risk, it is equally true that we must take only reasonable risks. Do not run blindly. Do not jump with your eyes closed; you must look before you leap. Do not undertake a journey without knowing the destination. If you do not know where you are going, you will never get there.

A place you do not have in mind, even if you get there, will not be known. Settle the question of destination before you take the first step. In 1978, one of my friends decided to go to Europe through Sudan, Morocco and Libya route. We persuaded him not to take such terrible risk but he refused. He left his young wife with a child in Nigeria and travelled. Up till today, nobody heard of him. He certainly must have lost his life in those hostile terrains. Each time I remember him or see his wife, my heart bleeds. Several others have lost their lives that way.

That's not something most of us work to achieve, is it? But, you know, we should. God has called us to be peculiar—to stand out from the rest of the world as living proof of His power and His love (1 Peter 2:9). He doesn't, for example, want us to share the ailments of the world.
