THEME: FOOLS MAY BE RIGHT SOMETIMES
ANCHOR TEXT: “Then the Lord opened the donkey’s mouth, and she said to Balaam, “What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?” Numbers 22:28.
God chooses whichever means He deems fit to talk to us or draw our attention to Himself. He may use animals, fools, children, wind etc. It takes grace and humility to listen or watch others talk, particularly those lesser than you in all respect. You can learn from anyone and anything, including fools. Moses complained to God that he was a stammerer (Exodus 4:10).
But he did not know that as far as God is concerned, the ability to talk less and listen more was a wonderful asset. Looking at today’s anchor scripture, it was clear that when all avenues of convincing and discouraging Balaam from going ahead to oblige the request of Balak failed, God made use of a donkey! Imagine a donkey! What a strange thing! It was when the donkey was strangely and deliberately acting contrary to Balaam’s instruction that he finally accepted to relinquish his adventure.
Somebody or something you did not expect could be used by God to speak to you. As for Jonah, it was the boisterous wind that threatened to capsize his boat that God used to turn him back from where He did not send him. When Jonah listened enough to the storm, he saw the handwriting that God did not support his mission of going to Tarshis, then he voluntarily offered to be thrown into the sea. As you step out today, be swift in hearing, and observing. Be attentive and alert enough to hear. God can speak through anything or anyone.
