Theme: Why add fasting to Prayer?
Matthew 17:14-21

The story we read in today’s Bible passage highlighted a crucial point in verse 17. That point is that there are some issues that cannot be solved by prayer alone. After rebuking His disciples for their unbelief, Jesus made this vital statement, “However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”

This drives home the point that there are issues you cannot tackle successfully unless you add fasting to prayer. The greatest hindrance to your connecting in the spirit is the flesh and those things described in Galatians 5:19-21 as the works of the flesh. Hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions and dissensions were all included as works of the flesh.

During fasting, the flesh is denied its appetites and cravings thereby weakening its assertiveness. Fasting subjugates the flesh to the spirit by mortifying it. Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:27, “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection.” Sensitivity in the spirit gains ascendancy and receiving guidance from heaven becomes easier while you are fasting.

In the passage, Jesus said that the disciples could not cast out the demon because of their unbelief. If adding fasting to their prayer would empower them to cast the devil out, it follows that fasting destroys unbelief. The flip side is that fasting increases the faith of one that has engaged in it.
Beyond these spiritual reasons, fasting also has the physical benefit of detoxifying the body. Generally, people live healthier and longer lives when they fast regularly. Bad habits are also broken more easily when fasting is added to prayer.

Pray for a deeper revelation of the benefits of fasting to you and to the church.

CONFESSION:
I must keep my flesh under so that my spirit will rule. I will constantly fast and pray.

His Channels

Rom.1:20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God [with emphasis]. So far we have examined three channels God uses to speak to us. If you are not reading your Bible consistently, if you are not listening to messages over and over again, and if you are not accountable to other believers, you do not have believers that are speaking into your life, you have already missed three main channels God speaks through. Channel #4: God speaks to us through His Creation. Ps.19:1 The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. 2 Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. 3 They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. 4 Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world [with emphasis]. God’s cre...

THEME: You Can Create Whatever You Desire John 16:21-27 The instrument with which you exercise dominion over creation is your mouth. You can create whatsoever you desire by speaking that thing into existence.Whatever you say begins to exist in the spiritual form.Jesus said in John 6:63,"The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life". In like manner, you create whatever you say and the things begin to exist in the spiritual form. What you create through words also have life and they continue to live until they find physical expression.  This is exactly what happens when you pray. The things you declare in prayer come alive and begin to exist in their spiritual form. They remain in that spiritual form until they are converted to their tangible equivalent through work. Jesus said,"until now you have asked nothing in My name.Ask,and you will receive, that your joy may be full" (John 16:24). Don't make the mistake of relaxing after you have pray...

THEME: RETREAT TO REFRESH READ: Matt. 11:25-30 When some musicians want to release great songs, they retreat to secluded places where they can reflect, meditate and create. Some choose places overlooking the vast oceans, some choose where there are waterfalls, and some choose places with thick forestations.  As they observe the beauty of nature, the swift moves and songs of the soaring birds, the colourful flowering vegetations, the serene beaches and the unending waves of the nearby waters, they capture inspiration that helps them develop the hit songs they have been longing for. I met one of the world’s renowned musicians in Atlanta, USA a few years ago where journalist surrounded him and were asking what he had come to do and why his beards had grown so much. He said that his last album did not perform well enough and he was incubating another one he wanted to release that would perform better. He said that he needed to pull away from the Noise of New York and California ...
