ANCHOR TEXT: “Now in those days the advice Ahithophel gave was like that of one who inquires of God. That was how both David and Absalom regarded all of Ahithophel’s advice” 2 Samuel 16:23.

It was the practice of kings in Israel to engage the services of counsellors. Ahithophel was one of such. He was the think-tank of David’s government. The Bible tells us that in those days, the counsel of Ahithophel was as if a man took counsel from the oracle of the Lord. He was a man of great insight. Presidents of nations, governors of states, and leaders of sorts do appoint special advisers from various fields of human endeavor. These are people who have distinguished themselves in their respective fields. The essence is to receive professional advice from them as it relates to governance, because no leader knows it all.

For instance, who can be a better consultant on church growth than David Yonggi Cho, the pastor of the largest church in the world? You may never be able to fix an appointment to see him, but his books and other publications are all around, to show you scriptural technicalities of church growth.

It is difficult to gather up resources for any productive use, or to assume control of one’s finances if leakages are not identified and blocked.
