Despite the apparent lack of manifestation, he still believed God’s goodness was ahead of him. Perhaps you are waiting to see God’s promised goodness in your life. I can tell you that God has for you is not behind you or off to the side somewhere, waiting for you to chase it down; it is ahead of you! Our Daily Bread Devotional Monday 15th August 2016 A good name is more desirable than great riches.  - Proverbs 22:1 While staying in a hotel in a small town I noticed that the church across the street was having a service. People were jammed into the church with a standing-room-only crowd of both young and old flowing out onto the sidewalk. When I noticed a hearse by the curb, I realized it was a funeral. And given the crowd, I assumed that it was the celebration of the life of some local hero—perhaps a wealthy businessperson or a famous personality. Curious, I said to the desk clerk, “That’s an amazing turnout for a funeral; it must be for a famous person in town.” “No,” he replied. “He wasn’t rich or famous but he was a good man.” This reminded me of the wisdom of the proverb that says, “A good name is more desirable than great riches” (Prov. 22:1). The smell will be terrible.”  - John 11:39 Lazarus was not only sick, he died. He did not only die, he was buried and he had started decaying. In other words, bacteria and fungi had begun to feast on him, releasing  ammonia or whatever waste product they release that causes the stench of a dead body. By now the irreversible appears to have happened. By now Jesus, it is impossible for You to do anything. Because Lazarus came back to life, everything that represents Lazarus in your life will come back to life. Because Jesus is alive, it will come back to life. Our Daily Bread Daily Devotional Saturday 13th August 2016 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. —Isaiah 55:8 Although I depend on technology every day to get my job done, I don’t understand much about how it works. I turn my computer on, bring up a Word document, and get to work on my writing. Yet my inability to comprehend how microchips, hard drives, Wi-Fi connections, and full-color displays actually function doesn’t get in the way of my benefiting from technology. In a sense, this mirrors our relationship with God. Isaiah 55:8-9 reminds us that God is far beyond us: “ ‘My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the Lord. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.’ ” Even though we don’t understand everything about God, that doesn’t prevent us from trusting Him. Fresh Fire Daily Devotional Saturday 13th August 2016 “You must present one-tenth of the tithe received from the Israelites as a sacred offering to the Lord. This is the Lord’s sacred portion, and you must present it to Aaron the priest” - Num.18:28 At one of our vigils, worship was really intense and beautiful, and I felt the Lord say that people owe Him tithe and He wanted to forgive them. I have never heard that before. We were taught that if you owe God tithe, you will pay back with twenty-five percent interest. Have you heard that before? But the Holy Spirit said He wants to wipe it off. Holy Spirit can mess up your theology. He is God and He reserves the right to do as He pleases.
